Who writes the guides and calculators
The articles, guides and calculator explanations on this site are
written by Abdullah Javaid, founder of Calfit and
a senior mobile app developer at Codestreaks. He builds the app
and writes about the numbers behind it, and every page shows the
working and the sources rather than asking you to take a figure on
trust. He also writes about building Calfit on
X, as @abdullahships.
Calfit is built by a small team at Codestreaks, which Abdullah started with co-founder Arsalan Amin, a former data scientist.
How we write
- Every health page lists its sources at the bottom: government and academic sources such as USDA FoodData Central, the NIH, the NHS, the WHO and peer reviewed papers, rather than other blogs.
- Drafts are written with AI assistance and then checked and edited by hand. Each page says so in its "How this was made" note.
- Calculators use published formulas, named on each page. The calorie, TDEE and macro calculators use the Mifflin St Jeor equation for resting energy, and the body fat calculator uses the US Navy circumference method.
- We update the date on a page only when its content changes.
What this site is not
Nothing here is medical advice. The calculators give estimates for healthy adults, and the guides explain general evidence. If you are pregnant, under 18, managing a condition such as diabetes or an eating disorder, or taking medication that affects appetite or weight, talk to a doctor or registered dietitian before changing how you eat.
The app
Calfit estimates calories and macros from a photo of your meal, sets a daily target that adapts to your weigh ins, and keeps your streak with Pip the hedgehog. It is free to start on the App Store and Google Play. AI estimates from a photo are an approximation, and every entry can be corrected with a tap.
